What would you do with kittens?

Ξ June 25th, 2008 | → | ∇ Everyday Stuff |

I just discovered four kittens that must have been living in our backyard since they were born.

I guess that explains the dead bird I had to clean up the other day.  And puts my fears of avian flu to rest.

Because I’ve totally been expecting to come down with it any minute.

They’re old enough that they don’t need their mom anymore, but from what I can tell there’s no way for them to get out of backyard right now.  We don’t have any holes under our fence and they’re too little to climb it.

There are four of them, and right now they’re pretty wild.  I can’t just leave them.  Can you imagine the trauma for one of the kids to find one starved to death out in the playhouse?

But I also can’t just leave them.  Four is plenty, we don’t need them multiplying exponentially.

What would you do?

If you can catch them, I would take them to a local no-kill shelter. Otherwise I would Google something like ‘non-profit animal rescue’ in your area and see if there is anyone who could help you! Good luck!

I did what Lee Ann did when my cat had kittens. I didn’t get her spayed like I should have and she had 7 more which are living in our garage at the moment. As soon as they are old enough they are going to family that have spoken for them.

Frazzmom is on the right track. You don’t want a feral cat colony in your backyard.

I would absolutely phone up a local feral cat society or a no-kill shelter. They are kittens now so I would think they would place more quickly than adults.

We have adopted three cats from our local feral cat society and have three excellent cats!

Best of luck. Let us know how it turns out :D

    Oh, lucky you!

You should be able to round them up pretty easily…and like Starr said…since they are kittens, I would suspect they would be easy to get adopted.

    Good luck!

besides the above… in the meantime could you post some flyers in the neighborhood to see if anyone had a pregnant cat that was about to have kittens. I think most cats would go home to have kittens, but maybe your backyard was cosier???
