I Think Our Genes Got Mixed Up

Ξ April 28th, 2008 | → | ∇ Everyday Stuff |

You know that gene that tells women that they’re always cold and men that they’re always hot?

Well, they got switched in my husband and I.

He’s always cold.  He’d keep the house 78 year-round if he could.

I open the windows on 60-degree days because I like the fresh air.

I’ve heard other women say that when they were pregnant the warmth differences evened out and they were finally the same temperature as their husbands.

However, when I was pregnant I slept in a tank top with a sheet pulled over me, and the sheet was only because I can’t stand to sleep without some sort of blanket.

And I still woke up sweaty.

Next to me?  My husband?

He slept in sweats with his hood pulled up underneath a down comforter.

Our children seem to have inherited the correct genes, though.

On a recent cool day, Luke went out to play, and I threw on my flip flops and went to enjoy the fresh air and take some pictures.

Sockless soccer.

Pay no attention to the boy behind the tree.

Then Chloe decided we were having too much fun without her and she came out.

Only she layered up first.

Note the sweater with the hood pulled up under the hat.

And the socks on the hands.

And now that I think about it, I have no idea why they both decided to play outside in cowboy hats. But I’m glad they did.

    Cute pics!

I’m just glad to know that my kids aren’t the only ones to wear socks on their hands…I think I also have a picture of them wearing gloves on their feet too. :)

I am SO with you on this! I am the *warmer natured* one in our house too. My hubby wore sweats as well when I was pregnant….

I’m diggin’ the cowboy hats too! Glad the kids genes are ok….I’d be with Chloe on this one. I live in one of the warmest places in Canada (in winter) and I am never without a toque and mittens! LOL

Cute pictures! Our kids seem typical boy and girl too… J’iah rarely gets cold, Bella easily turns purple and has to stop water activities earlier.

My kids seem to be cold all the time (they’re boys). Of course, that might be because they insist on running around on the hard floors of our house with no socks on. In the dead of winter. THAT they inherited from me. When I was a kid I always was barefoot. Even now I prefer no socks; but I usually have to wear them because otherwise my feet are icy. :)

My husband and I are mixed up too, in the winter I like the house cold and he would crank the heat if he could; in summer I can’t stand A/C except on the hottest days, but he’d keep the house chilled all summer. As for this pregnancy i sleep with only the sheet and a whole load of pillows on my side and he’s still got our winter duvet.

My husband likes to keep the house nice and cold! I on the other hand have in the past, in a hormonal frenzy slept in my flannels, fleece top, socks, sheet, comforter and 2 fleece blankets! My internal thermometer is way off!

I’m the same as you… I sleep in a tank top and underwear, usually just under one blanket, and still wake up sweating sometimes. Both of my parents, though, sleep in pants and tshirts (my mom sometimes wears a hoodie as well) in a HEATED waterbed. Even in the summer. Even thinking about that makes me sweat a little bit. I also wear flipflops year-round, wearing my Converse only when they look cuter with my outfit than flipflops do.

Oh, and your kids are adorable. I like the socks on the hands. :)

That’s so sweet (the socks on hands! LOL) My husband and I are the same way, the first springy day and all of our windows are opened up wide. I LOVE cool spring air. He is more hot natured than I am, but we are nearly on the same level. (Except when I was pregnant at which times I would have the windows open in December)

I am the one in our house who is always HOT! He is freezing! Every night i am in a T-shirt with the fan on me and he is in sweats, huddled under the down comforter :)

    Great shots of the kids!

Sounds like my family. We heat with a fireplace insert, and in the winter, my dad fills it up and we heat the living room to about 80 degrees. Daddy and I scoot up close to the stove; Mom goes to other end of the house and opens a window. Since I am a girl and always cold, I did get the right gene though.

I’m the one whose always cold. Infact today it’s 84 and i was wearing a sweater in the house. Neither the heat nor the a/c were on. My hubby is the hot one.

I used to be cold, and my husband kept the heat at 66…brrr. Now I’m hot and I want the heat at 62…and he’s cold!! But even in the tropics, I have to have a sheet over me…can’t stand to sleep with no blanket!! You’re the only other person I’ve heard say that!!!
