Stuff we study sometimes…

Stuff we’ve done in the past…

What we think:

Hideaways- SO MUCH FUN.  And I’m really enjoying the Story of the World books.  I didn’t learn a lot of this history.  Did you know that the Biblical city of Jericho is the oldest walled city ever discovered?  I didn’t.  It is a lot of reading aloud, so if your child likes that, they will love Hideaways in History.  Also, the Story of the World comes on CD form, so if your kids like to listen to stories, then they’ll love those.

Animals and their Worlds- If your kids like animals and plants then they’ll love this.  Even Luke sat in on most of the readings, and he was only 2-3 when we did this.  He’s obsessed with animals, though, and he learned a lot.  Both kids also loved the animal crafts, although I really had to do most of the crafts for Luke since he was so little.

Hooked on Phonics- Perfect for Chloe.  She loved getting to read her own little books almost from the start, and putting stars on her chart when she finished a book.  I don’t know if it will work as well for Luke, who is a little more wiggly.

Sonlight Pre-K- We returned it.  It had some great books, but it was just books and a couple workbook pages per day.  No activities.  Plus Chloe was extremely sensitive and several of the stories would have been too much to handle (still is sensitive, but not as much).  If you are good about adding in your own games, crafts, websites and activities then it could work for you.  I have great intentions, but no follow-through, so WinterPromise was a much better fit for us.

Little Hands to Heaven- Cute Bible stories and activities, but it just got old.  A Bible story with a little song with motions every single day, every single week?  We made it through about four or five weeks.

100EZ- Chloe actually asked to learn to read before she was three years old, so this is what we started with.  She actually got it, and we used about half of it, I think.  She hit a wall when it came to blending two sounds together.  She just couldn’t understand that, although she did learn every sound.  We moved on to HOP when she was ready to start reading short words.
