Isn’t working out supposed to make you MORE attractive?

Ξ January 15th, 2010 | → 2 Comments | ∇ Fitness Stuff |

So I’ve been working out with a friend at 5:30 in the mornings.

(please. take a moment to mourn my loss of two hours of sleep in the morning)

I’m the more experienced exerciser of the two of us, so I’m used to being the one who giggles a little when my friend loses her balance or whacks herself in the face.

(sorry, gotta take all the enjoyment I can get at 5:30 in the AM!)

Except for today. I am recovering from a cold and today as we were working out our shoulders, and I was feeling pretty proud at lifting 17.5 pounds, breathing hard to get those weights up there, suddenly…

A big bubble of snot blew all over my face.

(lovely)

An open letter to my carpet

Ξ August 28th, 2009 | → 1 Comments | ∇ Fitness Stuff |

Dear old grey carpet,

I understand that you’ve been abused in your past. I see the stains and tears that testify to your misuse.

However, that wasn’t me.

I am merely a renter, passing through for a year. And I’ve taken good care of you during the months I’ve lived here.

I vacuum the crumbs that the kids drop so that bugs don’t crawl on you. I’ve tried cleaning your old stains. I even stopped Audrey from peeing on you during potty training.

I treat you well.

Sure, I’ve sweated on you more than normal while doing Insanity.

But I promise to steam clean you before you start to stink.

There’s no cause for you to suck all the oxygen out of the room when I am trying to do my Max Interval Plyometrics.

Don’t even deny it was you, because when I was gasping for breath during the middle of my side to side hops and diamond jumps, the only time I could breathe was when I collapsed face down onto you.

And at the end of the workout, when I was doing my balance push ups? And I could neither balance nor push?

I know it was you moving around, making me unstable, causing me to collapse to the floor.

It had nothing to do with the lack of strength I have in my arms.

So I’m putting you on notice. Behave yourself, and be a nice, cushy landing for my power jumps.

Or I just might “forget” to wipe my shoes off the next time it rains.

Signed,
The sweaty girl who just collapsed on you after almost finishing an Insanity workout

I’ve Been Cheating on the Blogosphere

Ξ July 14th, 2009 | → 1 Comments | ∇ Fitness Stuff |

It used to be that 99% of my online time was spent with blogs.  Reading them.  Writing them.  Organizing my feeds.

Ok, so I don’t actually organize my feeds.  But I’ve thought about it from time to time.

But several months ago I discovered the message boards at Team Beachbody.

And I never left.

I actually started my journey with Beachbody way back in 2003 after having my first baby.  We were stationed in Japan, and there weren’t many options for me for exercise. I heard great things about something called Power 90, so I ordered it and lost all the baby weight in just a few months. Then I got pregnant again, and I kind of forgot about Beachbody after that.

And I had no idea at the time that they did infomercials.  Good thing, too, because I probably would have written them off if I had!

It wasn’t until after my third baby that I came back to Beachbody. I had broken my ankle when I was six months pregnant (ever see a pregnant woman on crutches? not a pretty sight), and I packed on the weight. 70 pounds. And all I did after having the baby was gain 10 more! I have tried and tried to get to the gym, and last year when Isaac was deployed to Iraq and I was home alone with the kids, I realized that I needed a workout I could do at home and that I LOVED. I needed the workout to motivate me, cuz I sure as heck wasn’t getting the job done.

I started with Slim in 6, then Turbo Jam, then Chalean Extreme. I got active on the message boards, and I haven’t left since! I have started working as an independent coach for Team Beachbody, and I coach people for free!  Tomorrow their newest program, Insanity is scheduled to arrive.  They say it’s the hardest workout ever put on dvd, but I’m actually excited to attempt it.

So, if you’re wondering where I am, or think maybe Insanity has done me in, check out the thread that I host.  If you’re interested in any of the Beachbody workout programs, I can be your coach!  For free :)

I got Extreme

Ξ May 7th, 2009 | → 2 Comments | ∇ Fitness Stuff |

So I’m still finishing off that post that I mentioned yesterday about my (still in progress) weight loss efforts, but I thought I’d show you what I am finishing up…

I got extreme.

Sort of.

Well, I bought the Chalean Extreme dvds and have been doing them fairly faithfully since January.  Except that during Isaac’s deployment I seemed to get sick every other week or so, and had to keep taking whole weeks off of exercising, so the 90 days turned into something like 120 or so.

Oh, and I pretty much stuffed my face with anything I could find every night while he was gone.

But except for those two minor details?

I totally rocked the work out.

And I lost 10% of my body fat and four inches from my waist.

When Isaac came home from deployment, one of the first things he did was start poking my muscles at an, um, inappropriate time for that sort of poking, because he was so amazed at how much muscle tone I’d gained.

I bet I even have rock hard abs.

Somewhere under the layer of flubber that I still have (see above re: stuffing my face).

It was a totally fun work out, and by the end of it I was amazed at how strong I was.  Seriously.  I’d flex for you, but, well, world-wide, public pictures, and all that.

But if we run into each other in Target, I’ll totally show you my biceps.

You know what the REAL Insanity is?

Ξ May 6th, 2009 | → 1 Comments | ∇ Fitness Stuff |

That I am actually anticipating the release of this new workout series, “probably the hardest workout ever put on dvd.”

I’m half way done with a post that updates my efforts to lose the weight I gained after I broke my ankle when I was pregnant with Audrey. Hopefully Friday I’ll be done with it. Maybe.
