Back to My Bloggy Roots

Ξ April 10th, 2009 | → 13 Comments | ∇ Bloggity Business |

A few of you may have noticed that I’ve disappeared from the blog several times over the last few months.  I could blame it on the deployment, stress, sickness, overtiredness, travel…there’s a lot, but the truth is, I had to take stock and change my priorities a bit.

I started my blog a few years ago with the intention of getting to know other homeschoolers.  Since we move so much in the military, I thought it would be nice to have some stable contacts, as well as meet people in places we may one day move to.

Which totally paid off in the form of my friend Bethany, whom I met online when living in Maryland, never dreaming that one day we’d both be living in the same city in Mississippi.

I soon discovered I loved blogging and branched out from other homeschool moms.  And as I gained more readers I got really into the numbers, my stats (you wouldn’t believe how many guys come here by googling ways to ask a girl out for coffee), and started eyeing blogging conferences like BlogHer, and envying moms who were popular enough to get paid trips to Disneyland.  My goal became less about making connections with people and more about being popular.

But as my time got sucked up and I started thinking about sinking money into conferences, I realized that what I really needed to do was simplify.  Sure, going to BlogHer would be fun and would make me some contacts, but going to a homeschool conference with a good friend would be encouraging, edifying, restful, fun…and beneficial to the whole family.

So I took a step back.

It was hard.

I lost over half my readers.

But you know who I have left?

You.

The ones who care about more than a quick giggle.

And I’m glad I can reconnect with you.

The Countdown Begins

Ξ July 29th, 2008 | → 16 Comments | ∇ Bloggity Business, Deployment |

You know how my husband just got back from a six-month deployment?

Well, he’s leaving again sometime around October 1.

We still have plenty of time, you might think.

It’s two months.

Nine weeks.

And then he’ll be in Iraq.

The past few years have been unexpectedly full of deployments for us.  By the time he gets back from this one, sometime next spring, he’ll have completed three deployments in less than four years.

So I may be gone from the blog more often than normal for a while.  Yesterday I had intended to host a giveaway for the Bloggy Giveaways Carnival, but due to some airline delays my husband ended up with a day off yesterday.  We took the kids to a nearby water park and all turned pink and happy.

And I don’t mind missing the giveaway.  I’ll have one of my own one of these days, but over the next several weeks, I’ll be looking to spend as much time with my husband and family as possible.

Which, given his busy schedule may not be all that much, but still.  I’ll be trying to stay off Twitter as much as possible outside of the kids naptimes, and if I have a choice between time with Isaac or writing a blog post, he’s going to win.

I’ll still be around, just quieter.

And I’m sure I’ll be back regularly once he’s gone.

I’ll need the support.

How Do You Feel About Scrapbooking?

Ξ June 30th, 2008 | → 2 Comments | ∇ Bloggity Business |

I’ve been taking a couple online scrapbooking classes lately, and have been undecided about whether to post about them in a regular post, or to keep the posts separate on the Scrapbooking page.

So I decided I’d just see what ya’ll prefer. There wouldn’t be a flood of posts, but it is a change from my normal posting topics.

No suspicious bodily fluids at all.

What do you think? If you’re reading in a feedreader, you might want to click over so you can vote in the poll I put up.

A Few Technical Difficulties

Ξ June 11th, 2008 | → 4 Comments | ∇ Bloggity Business |

Just when I thought I was understanding my blog and how it works, bang, and I break it.

Ok, so it was actually “cut”, “paste” and I break it, but “bang” just has so much more impact, don’t you think?

If you subscribe in a reader you probably didn’t notice anything, but I assure you, there were warnings across the top of every page that there was some fault in some line and yada yada everything was wonky and now I have to redesign my sidebars because all the text widgets disappeared.

Fun stuff.  Good times.

Maybe tomorrow  I can accidentally delete every singe email in my entire account.  It’s been a while since I’ve had that much fun.
