A Cultural Tour

Ξ April 5th, 2009 | → 7 Comments | ∇ Navy Life |

One of the most interesting parts of Navy life is the chance to travel and experience life in other states and countries.

One of the most interesting differences between the states?

Roadkill.

See, in California as you’re driving down the road, you mostly see Fluffy and Rover from down the street.

In Maryland it was deer and groundhog.

Here in Mississippi? Armadillo and an alligator.

And while the Navy hasn’t given us any paperwork, it looks like we’re going to be moving to Louisiana soon. We drove there last week, and in the middle of Bayou Nowhere, what did we see on the side of the road?

A bear.

Join the Navy.  See the world.

And its roadkill.

Wow! A bear?? Are you happy about the move to Louisiana? There’s talk of us moving to Barksdale AFB there next year but we’re not holding our breath since so much can (and has!) happen in a year!

That’s funny. We are on the opposite end of the Navy. My hubby is from GA. He joined the navy to see the world, and ended back in GA! We haven’t moved much. But your experiences are interesting to read about! :)

Did you really see an alligator on the road in Mississippi? Where were you? I know they are around, but I’ve never seen a dead one on the road. Wow. I’m jealous!

Too funny, so true! I’m in the same boat as Alisha up there, he joined hoping to travel some (USMC) and low and behold, we’re NC natives that have yet to leave NC 7 years later!! Go figure.

Louisiana!!!! Land that I love!!! I live right in the middle. You know where I-10 and I-49 meet? Well, I quite literally live just a few miles from there.
