There’s a mouse about the house

So I could tell you all about greeting Isaac’s plane and watching the excitement on the kids’ faces as they saw the guys coming towards us. Or our trip to California. Or the fact that we might be moving in a month.

But instead, I’m going to tell you about the mouse.

Because I don’t think I can sleep tonight.

See, we cleaned the house really well before we went to California so that we wouldn’t get ants.

And we came home to mouse poop.

It was a cute little thing until it noticed me and performed gold medal worthy acrobatics at the speed of light and then scurried straight towards me, and I screamed.

It got away from us and we bought a nice trap that wouldn’t hurt the sweet little thing, but haven’t seen the mouse since Monday.

Until tonight. Out of the corner of my eye as I was watching American Idol. I saw it waddling down the hall.

Waddling. Not scurrying, but waddling. And it wasn’t a sweet little thing. And it escaped us again, and I’m pretty sure it Houdini’d right into our bedroom.

Which is why I’m still awake and on the couch after midnight.

And I have no plans to sleep in my bed any time soon.

Yikes! Totally understand that! I remember having a mouse when Lane was deployed to Japan. It happened to make it’s special little appearance while Cate was visiting one day. Scurried over to eat all the food dropped under the highchair that I hadn’t cleaned in days. I was so embarrassed! Of course, then I was horrified when I had to catch the thing myself, without my big, strong man to defend me from it. But, see, yay your big strong man is home now. Yay, yay and triple yay! Moving stinks though… The military life is so incredibly unpredictable.

Eekkkkkk! We had a mouse before we moved in Kingston…just before a house showing. I screamed like a little girl and let Jason deal with it. I too would be sleeping on the couch.

Living in the country I have had my share of mouse stories and events. The cats I have now are worth their weight in gold when it comes to my sanity!

YUCK, yuck, yuck. Years ago I opened up our cupboards in the middle of the night to get something to eat and there was a mouse sitting there eating all of my leftover Easter candy.

He had to die. He ate all of my chocolate – and crossed the line!
