How Many Cups…

How many cups of coffee do you think it took me to:

  • Wash four loads of laundry
  • Put away seven loads of laundry
  • Clean two bathrooms and the kitchen
  • Vacuum the house
  • Help the kids clean their playroom
  • Do most of our taxes
  • Hem a pair of jeans

I’ll give you a hint…it’s more than the number of weeks that hem will probably hold up!

(mostly)Wordless Wednesday- Oops

Yes, that is nail polish. I don’t think I’ll ever get the smell of acetone out of my hands after trying to clean that up.

I need your honest opinions

So last night I got to bed when the clock actually read PM.

And the sleep has revived my brain.  The cells are full of energy and the neurons are firing and so I thought today would be a good day to bring up a really important topic.

One with many ramifications and various options.

Yes, that’s right.

My hair.

So when I was in California during Christmas, I got some color in my hair for the first time ever.  EV-ER.

See, I just wanted some lowlights.  The stray greys that I had been pulling out called in reinforcements and I’m starting to get some streaks.  I chose lowlights because I thought they would be: 1) An easy introduction to hair color and 2) Not noticeable as they grow out.  With my husband deployed I can’t really maintain my hair on a schedule, so I wanted something that wouldn’t show roots within weeks.

The stylist convinced me that I should really do highlighs and lowlights for depth and movement.  She said she’d do one shade lighter and one darker than my natural color.

I have stripes.

There’s no way those stripes in my hair are only one shade lighter, my friends. And each time I see someone I haven’t seen since before I got them?

They say, “Oh. You got highlights.”

And I’m pretty sure they’re going to be obvious as they grow out.

And so I turn to you.

What do I do?

Brrr

And then she climbed out of the tv

I have an article up over at Military Bliss today that made me realize that I have never discussed my insomnia with you all.

I’m not really an insomniac.  First, I am naturally a night owl.  From the earliest time I can remember I was always the last one awake at slumber parties.  If the world, and my children, revolved around my schedule, we’d all be staying up until 1am and then sleeping til 9.

We’d get so much done at night!

Can you imagine the shock to my system when Chloe was a baby and insisted on waking up at 5am on the dot every stinkin’ morning?

I do make an effort to get to bed by 10 or 11 most nights, because I also make an effort to get up around 5 so I can workout, shower, and spend some time in the Bible all before the kids get up.

And then my husband deploys.

And at a time when I need to wake up early more than ever, I suddenly find myself completely unable to make myself get in bed.  Instead I watch Food Network and old reruns of CSI until the wee hours of the morning.

And when I do finally get in bed, every horror movie I’ve ever seen comes back to haunt me.  The freaky Japanese boy from The Grudge* is standing by my bed, the freaky girl from The Ring* is climbing out of my tv, and I’m absolutely certain that someone is either breaking into my house or has broken in and I’m listening to their footsteps walking down the hall.

A situation not helped by the fact that the cop next door moved and the house is now sitting empty, the last bastion between the criminal element of the world and me, gone.

My imagination may go into overdrive just a bit when I am home alone.

What do you do when you are home alone at night?

*You may notice that these movies are several years old.  I had to give up watching horror movies completely because I either turned into a wimp or movies just got too scary.
