More Straight No Chaser

Ξ November 26th, 2008 | → 3 Comments | ∇ Just Fun Stuff |

Ok, come on, after yesterday’s giveaway post how many of you looked up Straight No Chaser on iTunes and saw that they have a whole Christmas album that just came out? And includes their 12 Days of Christmas?

How many of you are going to go look for it now?

Because I have loved them since I first saw them on YouTube last year, I thought I’d share a little more with you:

The Lion Sleeps Tonight

National Anthem

And, because it’s just as funny the 200th 20th second time around, 12 Days

It’s that time of year again- A giveaway!

Ξ November 25th, 2008 | → 66 Comments | ∇ Win Cool Stuff |

A confession- I’ve been listening to Christmas music since before Halloween!

Usually I have a hard and fast rule that Christmas does not make an appearance in our house until the day after Thanksgiving, but this year I needed a lift.

The problem is that most of my Christmas cd’s are in the attic, so I’ve been listening to the same 15 songs on my ipod for a month now.

I need some new music.

So, I am giving away two (2!) $15 itunes giftcards. To enter, tell me your favorite Christmas song- one that is actually downloadable by a specific artist, not just a generic carol.

One winner will be picked at random, and the other will go to whomever’s recommendation becomes my new favorite Christmas song.

All entries must be received by Friday, Dec 5th, and the winner will be announced Saturday.

Fa la la, ya’ll.

When I get no news from Iraq

Ξ November 24th, 2008 | → 9 Comments | ∇ Everyday Stuff |

Communication from Iraq is pretty bad. Calls get dropped, skype hardly ever works, emails get delayed.

So I try not to worry when I don’t hear from my husband, or the phone rings unexpectedly late at night. I know he has a safe job, on base.

Usually.

Sometimes he has to go on a convoy. Or take a helicopter. Or both.

On the same day.

And then there’s nothing.

No phone calls. No emails.

(Where is he? Why hasn’t he emailed? Please, God let him be safe.)

And a day goes by with no word.

And I wake up the next morning, thinking now there’ll be an email from him.

(Pleasepleaseplease)

But there is nothing.

(Please let him be ok. Please let him be ok.)

And then someone comes to the door. And I think maybe I shouldn’t answer it. Maybe I don’t want to know who is on the other side of it. Maybe this is it.

(Oh God, don’t let this be it don’t let this be it don’tletthisbeit)

And it’s not. It’s just a friend who was out and decided to drop something off.

And so I wait. And I pray. I feed my children and clean the house.

And I check my email obsessively.

Until finally, finally there is an email from him. The lines were down and he couldn’t email or call.

(ThankyouthankyouthankyouGod)

And I know that we’re not even halfway done with this deployment. How many more times will I have to wonder?

Seriously, ya’ll

Ξ November 14th, 2008 | → 7 Comments | ∇ Deployment Misadventures |

There needs to be some sort of organization that women with deployed husbands can call at 10:00 at night when they find a spider in the house that is greater than two inches big.*

I really don’t think it’s too much to ask when I’m sacrificing six months of my life.
