It brings out the schizophrenic in me

Back to school time, that is.
See, suddenly all the bloggers out there are talking about this thing called “free time” that they suddenly find themselves with.
And us homeschoolers are all, “What is this free time of which you speak?”
And they speak of shopping by themselves and doing things with no interruptions.
And I look at my jeans with holes in them and my empty refrigerator shelves and the icky stuff growing on my shower door and the paint peeling off my toenails and I think how much I could accomplish with this free time.
And then my friend says how it’s not really all that much time, why with all the driving to and from school and waiting in line for pick-up, it’s only like three hours a day she has to herself.
And I think, “Yeah, just join me and a baseball bat in that room over there and I’ll show you just how long three hours is.”

Oh.My.Word. LOL!!
I am so with you on this one! I have a friend who has her little one in preschool 3 days a week and she is now sending him to daycare the other 2 days (she stays at home). Just so she can have free time.
I truly don’t know what I would do with myself if I had an entire schoolday to myself. I’d probably go crazy with all the silence.

My kids will definitely be going to school–I am not patient enough to homeschool–but I doubt I will have much free time. Since it will be 4 more years until the last one goes to school, and I keep agreeing to babysit other people’s kids. So I am sure I will always have someone around…..
God bless you for your choice! I do not think I would ever be quite sane…..

Amen, sista! We pretty much do school year round. The joy usually outweighs the tiredness, but I’m just sayin’…

Good to hear someone else is “feeling” the unfairness… I gripe inside my head, but then see their little faces and KNOW no one else will take such great interest in them all day long (of course no one else will be praying to have patience and kindness all day long as much as me either!).
I think Chloe and Josiah are similar in being highly verbal… he has sooo many questions all day long. So many things he his figuring out verbally each day and filing away. I know as a former teacher that a classroom teacher CANNOT devote the time to help him figure out his ponderings. She/he has responsibility for many other students too.
You’re doing the good! Being different than most others is okay (I keep having to tell myself this
love you!

Oh I am with you sister!!!! I work in the school system as a speech pathologist when my children are in school, so when they go back I go back!
It makes me crazy when Mom’s try to tell me that it is “not much free time, because of dropping off and picking up.” I LOOK AT THEM WITH A BLANK STARE!

I am with ya in this one. Some people still think I don’t do anything all day because I homeschool. I tell them…my laundry still needs washing, groceries still need to be bought and house cleaned plus school 3 kids and manage an online business. Still I do nothing because I am home ALL DAY. I don’t get it! Sorry to rant…bad day!

No interruptions?! Is that even possible? It’s like a fairy tale to me.

As a working mom, I can tell you that school doesn’t give me any free time. It just adds homework to our already busy evenings. Three hours a day sounds quite lovely to me.
