I May Have Neglected a Thing or 40

Ξ March 30th, 2008 | → 7 Comments | ∇ CoffeeCaffeineJava, Everyday Stuff |

So, um, have I mentioned that we are leaving to go to Orlando this Saturday?

And that we are getting up in the wee small hours o’ the morning to drive there?

And that my husband left today on field exercises and will not be back until some unspecified hour on Friday, and is completely out of touch until then?

And how am I preparing for this massive undertaking all by myself?

Sheer denial and copious amounts of coffee.

And I may have already finished two books off of my reading list.

So now it’s time to do the responsible thing.

I’m going to switch to decaf.

And read another book.

What, did you think I’d say I was going to start doing laundry?

My Children Are Trying to Kill Themselves

Ξ March 28th, 2008 | → 15 Comments | ∇ Kids, Motherhood |

I don’t know what it’s been about the past two days, but if one of us isn’t deadngone by Sunday, it’ll be a miracle.

Yesterday Audrey was into everything. Four times I had to pull trash out of her mouth and put it back into the trash can.

Luke decided to take a bath while I was cooking dinner, and when I went to investigate a strange sound, I discovered that Audrey had thrown his Leapster (gameboy kinda thing) into his bath! I put her outside to play and the next time I looked up, she was sucking on the sharp tip of my gardening spade.

And when I went to get it, she took off running with it in her mouth.

Today, again during dinner, I went to the bathroom. In the time it took me to pee, Luke had pushed a chair in front of the stove, climbed up, and was leaning over a boiling pot of noodles, set on a burner on high, and was feeling the steam.

And in the time it took me to put a lid on that pot, Audrey had reached up and pulled a glass bowl full of pasta sauce down off the counter and onto her head and half the kitchen.

Maybe I just need to stop cooking dinner.

Hey, I Can Read!

Ξ March 27th, 2008 | → 3 Comments | ∇ Books |

I’ve been trying to read “Atonement” and “A Charlotte Mason Companion” for months now, and just haven’t been able to get into them.

So I just haven’t been reading much, thinking that I need to finish those two books before buying more.

But the Spring Reading Thing gave me just the excuse I needed to toss those books aside and buy some new ones! So, here is my list of books that I want to finish by June 24th, after which I hope to give some of them away to one or more of you so that I can get them out of my house do my small part to help the environment.

1. Mansfield Park- Jane Austen

2. Beautiful Boy: A Father’s Journey Through His Son’s Meth Addiction- David Sheff

3. Tweak: Growing Up on Methamphetamines- Nic Sheff

4. Big Green Purse: Use Your Spending Power to Create a Cleaner, Greener World- Diane MacEachern

And if I finish those, my next choices will be

5. Persuasion- Jane Austen

6. In Defense of Food: An Eater’s Manifesto- Michael Pollan

Have you read any of these?
